SRINAGAR – In occupied Kashmir, the communication blackout continues on the6th consecutive day today.
The Indian government had snapped television, telephone and internet linksto prevent demonstrations against its decision of changing the specialstatus to Jammu and Kashmir.
There is no contact of the external world with the residents of theterritory and majority of newspapers could a not be printed during allthese days due to curfew and other restrictions.
All Hurriyat leaders, including Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooqhave been put under house arrest or in jails.
Over 560 political leaders and workers including even pro-India politicianslike Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Engineer Abdur Rasheedand Sajjad Lone, have been detained.
Seventy of the arrested Hurriyat leaders and activists have been shiftedfrom Srinagar to a jail in Agra city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Due to severe blockade, the people of the Kashmir valley are facing severeshortage of essential commodities including baby food and life-savingmedicines.
