113 attacks across Afghanistan by Taliban on presidential elections day: Report

MOSCOW – At least 32 people were reportedly killed and 123 more injured in113 attacks across Afghanistan on the day of the presidential election.According to the Pajhwok news agency, the Taliban Islamist movement claimedresponsibility for at least 64 attacks.

Afghan citizens voted on Saturday to elect the country’s president in anelection that saw around 9.5 million people registered for casting theirballots, Sputnik has reported.

The Taliban said earlier on Saturday that the group had blocked access topolling places in some provinces, preventing local residents from voting.

Earlier in the day, at least 2 people were killed and 35 more injured inthe attack at a polling venue in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz. Theattacker reportedly placed explosives on a bicycle and detonated it nearthe polling centre.

The Taliban, which repeatedly threatened earlier to disrupt the Afghanpresidential voting, also launched an attack on the city of Kunduz, whichsignificantly weakened after the voting had come to an end. The unstablesituation in the city urged many voters to refrain from casting ballots.

Overall, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid reportedly claimed on Saturdaythat the attacks included the country’s capitallinkofKabul, as well as provinces of Kunar, Paktia, Parwan, Maidan Wardak,Ghazni, Laghman, Paktika, Khost, Logar, Balkh, Kapisa, Jowzjan, Bamyan,Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Takhar, Nuristan, Helmand, Herat, Kandahar,Farah, Badghis, Faryab, Daikundi, Zabul and Nimroz.
