Shaheen Shah Afridi creates history in ODI Cricket

Shaheen Afridi's remarkable achievement took place during the World Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Kolkata on a Tuesday. In this thrilling encounter, he secured his position as the fastest fast bowler to reach 100 wickets in one-day cricket.

Afridi's momentous 100th ODI wicket materialized during Pakistan's World Cup battle against Bangladesh when he sent Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hassan back to the pavilion without scoring a single run. This feat was accomplished in Afridi's 51st ODI appearance, surpassing the previous record held by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who reached the 100-wicket mark in his 52nd match.

It's worth noting that Shaheen Afridi now stands ahead of other renowned fast bowlers who have achieved this milestone in the past, such as New Zealand's Shane Bond and Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman, both of whom achieved it in 54 matches. Moreover, Shaheen has also outpaced Saqlain Mushtaq, becoming the fastest Pakistani bowler to reach 100 wickets, as Saqlain achieved this feat in 53 matches.

Shaheen Afridi's prowess with the ball has solidified his reputation as one of the world's best bowlers. He consistently represents the Pakistan team across all formats of the game and is particularly menacing with the new ball.

His journey in international cricket began in 2018 when he made his debut in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. In the World Cup clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the toss was won by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, who chose to bat in what promised to be a crucial encounter.
