Shehbaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister and president of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), along with his son Hamza Shehbaz, have been called to appear in the Ramzan Sugar Mills case.
This summons was issued to them by the accountability court. The case reopened following the Supreme Court's nullification of the NAB amendment. They are scheduled to appear on November 29th.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had previously reopened the reference against Shehbaz Sharif, and the Supreme Court had struck down amendments to NAB laws. The case involves allegations of financial fraud, impersonation, and forging of the Pakistan Penal Code, as well as violations of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering laws.
The FIR revealed substantial deposits in bank accounts of low-wage employees of Ramzan Sugar Mills and Al-Arabia Sugar Mills, as well as accounts of fictitious companies controlled by the Sharif group, totaling over Rs25 billion from 2008 to 2018.
