Electoral Reforms Committee approves various proposals

The sub-committee of the parliamentary committee on electoral reforms today approved various proposals regarding electoral rolls, printing of ballot papers and delimitations.

Law Minister Zahid Hamid chaired the meeting of the committee.

The committee decided that Election Commission will have to complete delimitations of constituencies four months before elections.

It agreed that all financial powers should be delegated to the Chief Election Commissioner.

It was also decided to purchase new printing machines for ballot papers by February next year while watermark ballot papers will be used in elections.

The Committee also recommended to reduce duration intraparty elections from six to four years.
