India tops the list of modern day slavery: Report

MELBOURNE: A human rights research organization revealed in the 2016 Global Slavery Index that at least 45 million people are trapped in modern slavery and India is at top with 18.35 million.
Walk Free Foundation released the report of modern slavery that include women and children.
The report claimed that nearly 14.3 million people were enslaved in 2014 and it is a massive increase within two years in India.
The Index includes 167 countries that are involved in modern slavery but only 5 Asian countries accounted 58% of the total.
These countries include, India at no. 1 slot with 18.35m, China at 2nd with 3.39 m, Pakistan at 3rd with 2.13 m while Bangladesh at 4th with 1.53 million and Uzbekistan ranked at no. 5 with 1.23 million.
The report claimed that India has more people enslaved than any other country but it is also adopting measures but very slowly to tackle the issue.
According to the report, the countries having lowest modern slavery includes Luxembourg, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand while North Korea has highest incidence with 4.37 percent of its population that is the weakest country to deal with it.
