Pakistan China engage in bilateral talks concerning Arms Control

Today in Beijing, the 8th round of talks on Arms Control and non-proliferation between Pakistan and China took place. Leading their respective delegations were Mohammad Kamran Akhtar, Additional Secretary for Arms Control & Disarmament/Policy Planning from Pakistan, and Sun Xiaobo, Director General of the Department of Arms Control at China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

Before the discussions, the Additional Secretary met with Sun Weidong, Vice Foreign Minister of the Republic of China. The meeting encompassed extensive discussions on China-Pakistan relations, the global and regional security landscape, and various topics of shared interest.

Within the consultation, a wide array of subjects pertaining to Arms Control, disarmament, and non-proliferation were explored, which included both regional and global security dynamics. Notably, Pakistan's delegation visited prominent think tanks in Beijing, including China's Arms Control & Disarmament Association and the Chinese Institute of Contemporary International Relations. As part of these visits, both sides concurred on augmenting collaborative efforts between the think tanks and research institutions of both countries.

A consensus was reached to convene the 9th round of discussions next year on a date mutually agreed upon by both sides.
