The Caretaker administration of Pakistan has formulated a relief strategy in response to widespread demonstrations across the nation, which were triggered by outrage over excessively high electricity bills. These protests have drawn participants from all walks of life, spanning from Karachi to Khyber.
Insiders familiar with the situation have revealed that Pakistan has formally presented this plan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with a written request for a relief package amounting to Rs250 billion intended to alleviate the burden of electricity costs on the populace.
The relief plan primarily focuses on individuals who consume up to 400 units of electricity per month, as stated by the aforementioned sources. One of the key suggestions put forth by Pakistan involves rescinding the recent Rs7 per unit tariff hike in electricity charges, with a proposed gradual implementation strategy.
Furthermore, Pakistan has approached the IMF for approval to extend installment facilities to electricity consumers, with the Finance Ministry offering written assurances to the international lender regarding the collection of bills for the months of August and September.
