Indus River System Authority (IRSA) committee emergency session held

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Advisory Committee of Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Tuesday said water was being provided to the provinces as per quota rather than their demands.
The committee meeting held here with IRSA chairman Rao Irshad Ali Khan in the chair reviewed water storage in Tarbela dam and provision of less water to Sindh and Punjab from their demands.
The emergency meeting was convened on the request of Sindh. The Sindh adopted that 20 per cent less water from their demand was being provided to the province.
It was informed that water discharge from Tarbela had been reduced and water was being provided to Punjab from Mangla after August 23.
The water discharge from Mangla and Tarbela stood at 50,000 cusecs and 150,000 cusecs respectively.
Sindh was getting 141,000 cusecs water while 118,000 cusecs water was being provided to Punjab.
The demand of Sindh and Punjab stood at 170,000 cusecs and 140,000 cusecs, respectively.
It was also informed that the water regulator had reservation over filling of Tarbela dam and it was also recommended to Water and Power Development Authority to review SOP for filling of the Tarbela dam.
The meeting was attended by members of all provinces and WAPDA officials.
