Flight operations of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been disrupted due to the grounding of five Boeing aircraft, according to ARY News. Specifically, three Boeing 777 aircraft were grounded for maintenance purposes, while two others were permanently taken out of service due to the absence of engines.
Currently, out of PIA's fleet of 12 Boeing aircraft, only seven are operational, with one aircraft being non-functional in Jeddah. The national airline requires $60 million for aircraft maintenance.
Earlier reports highlighted that the lack of maintenance and repair work had led to technical faults in several Boeing 777 aircraft of PIA during international flights. These technical issues not only posed flight safety risks but also caused inconvenience to passengers and financial difficulties for the airline.
In May of the same year, a report from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revealed that a total of eight PIA aircraft were grounded, with seven of them being repairable, while one was deemed unusable. Among these were three Boeing 777s, two airbuses, and three ATRs grounded due to lack of service.
