Hezbollah shoots down Israeli military drone with Surface to Air Missile

In southern Lebanon, on Sunday, Hezbollah reported shooting down an Israeli drone with a surface-to-air missile. This marked the first time Hezbollah had publicly acknowledged such an incident as tensions at the Lebanese border intensified.

The drone was targeted near Khiam, approximately 5 km (3 miles) from the Israeli border, and it was observed falling inside Israeli territory. Notably, it was the first time Hezbollah had officially declared its capability to shoot down a drone, although they had previously implied having this capability.

The Israeli Defense Ministry had not provided an immediate response.

Additionally, the United Nations' Lebanon peacekeeping force, UNIFIL, reported on Sunday that one of its members was injured when their base near the village of Houla, situated on the Lebanese-Israeli border, was hit by shells the previous Saturday.

Over the past three weeks, the Israeli army and Hezbollah in Lebanon had been engaging in daily exchanges of fire, coinciding with the start of the Gaza conflict.
