Disappointing news for Pakistani cricket fans

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disclosed the date for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) player draft in 2024, setting the event for December 13, 2023.

PSL 9 is tentatively scheduled to take place from February 8 to March 24, 2024. In light of the upcoming general elections, reports suggest that the first 15 matches of the PSL might be relocated to either South Africa or the United Arab Emirates.

The PSL governing council convened a meeting where the PCB briefed production staff and sponsors on the situation. Sources have indicated that, due to the general elections, Pakistan may not be able to host the PSL's initial round.

Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB management committee, proposed to PSL franchises to contemplate holding the competition overseas. However, there is apparent hesitancy among the PSL teams to move the domestic tournament abroad, as it would lead to a further increase in expenses.

Despite the desire of PSL franchises to explore the possibility of hosting the league in Pakistan, no conclusive decision has been reached in the meeting.
