Federal Government clarifies media reports over procurement of Coronavirus vaccines by provinces

Provincial governments do not need to obtain a NOC from the federal government before procuring any of the registered Coronavirus vaccines.

According to the Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health, Dr. Faisal Sultan, the federal government will extend maximum support to provincial governments in procuring COVID-19 vaccines. ------------------------------

Dr. Faisal added that the federal government has acquired a significant amount of COVID-19 vaccine doses and will continue to procure Coronavirus vaccines for all Pakistani citizens.

He confirmed that another batch of Coronavirus vaccine consisting of 1 million doses from China will reach Pakistan next week. ------------------------------

The SAPM noted that healthcare workers and senior citizens are currently being immunized under the mass vaccination campaign that was started last month after receiving 0.5 million doses of Sinopharm’s Coronavirus vaccine from China.

Dr. Faisal also warned that the ongoing third wave of Coronavirus has the potential to be worse than the first wave in summer last year. He requested the public to adhere to the COVID-19 SOPs issued by the government and ensure the wearing of facemasks in crowded spaces.
