RIYADH: Military Chiefs of 39 Islamic States Coalition led by Saudi Arabia gathered in Riyadh for the first time and vowed to “dry up terrorists’ resources”.

 

Saudi Military spokesman Brigadier-General Ahmed al-Asiri claimed that this military alliance will target ISIS and other terrorist groups and also share intelligence information to counter terrorism.

 

He claimed that the coalition will work within the limits of ‘UN resolutions and conventions’ and troops may deploy somewhere if needed.

 

“The conference will tackle many issues related to military and security cooperation between Islamic countries, such as the international war on terror,” the statement read.

 

Asiri claimed that 39 Muslim States participated in the meeting from which some are not part of alliance conveys a strong message of unity and coordination to the enemy.

 

Asiri also offered to build alliance’s coordination centre in Riyadh.

 

Saudi Defence Minister Mohammad Bin Salman announced the formation of Islamic Military Alliance in December which also concluded military exercise ‘North Thunder’ earlier this month.
