Anti-polio drive to begin in Punjab, Karachi from Monday

ISLAMABAD: An anti-polio campaign will begin in Punjab and Karachi from Monday.

Sehat Muhafiz polio eradication teams of the Health Department Punjab will visit door to door to vaccinate nearly 1.7 million children less than five years of age in three districts including Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and 163 union councils of Rawalpindi.        

Meanwhile, at least 1.9 million children would be administered anti polio drops during six-day anti-polio drive in Karachi.               

Presiding over the meeting in Karachi, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Sualeh Ahmed Farooqi said that polio eradication from the society is a national cause and it should be done with commitment and dedication. 

The representatives of WHO, UNICEF, Bill Gates and Melinda, and Rotary Club also attended the meeting and expressed their satisfaction over the efforts being made in Karachi.
