ISLAMABAD: Shehbaz Sharif, the PML-N president and jailed former PM Nawaz Sharif’s brother, summoned all the party candidates who have been successful in the election.
The former Punjab CM will discuss the party’s future course of action with the party’s elected representatives at the PML-N’s central secretariat in Lahore at 4pm on Sunday.
As the Election Commission released its final results Saturday evening, PML-N’s rival party, the PTI, emerged as the largest political party in parliament with 115 seats in the National Assembly. The PML-N managed to secure 64 seats in the lower house.
The party has retained its majority in the Punjab Assembly. It has 129 seats while the PTI has won 123 seats.
More than a dozen parties announced at an All Parties Conference (APC) that they will protest over the election results. However, the group remained divided with some parties pledging to boycott joining the National Assembly and others calling for a new vote.
The PML-N announced its support for the group but stopped short of saying it would boycott the new parliament.
