*KARACHI: *The outgoing director general Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, has said that his successor would take over on February 1.
“It is an honour for me, if Indians are happy with my transfer from the ISPR,” said Maj Gen Ghafoor while speaking to defence correspondents of Pakistani media outlets on Thursday.
On Jan 16, Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar was posted as the new DG ISPR to replace Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor.
The outgoing chief military spokesperson heaped praise on the defence correspondents who, according to him, were his “core team” during his role as DG ISPR.
“They strengthened the spirit of Pakistan’s armed forces with their responsible reporting,” said Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor, who has been posted as General Officer Commanding (GOC) Okara.
“Pakistan has fought a battle for its survival during the past two decades – and the defence correspondents stood rock solid by the armed forces in this fight,” he added. “The media played an important role in the achievements of the armed forces.”
He further said that the media won the hearts of the armed forces and the families of its martyrs.
