Construction of small dams solution to Balochistan’s water crisis: Governor

QUETTA: Governor Balochistan Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yasinzai said that in view of the increasing human necessities and emerging problem of water shortage in the province there is need to develop a comprehensive strategy for construction of small dams.
He expressed these views while talking to the delegation led by Kharan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s leader Mir Shaukat Baloch.
While acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the hardship people were facing due to water shortage, the Governor said if there is no concrete and timely measures taken for its betterment, the green fields, fruit gardens and farms might turn into arid dry land.
“Half of Balochistan is gripped by a drought, if this crisis continues, the population might have to migrate in near future,” he warns.
“The provincial capital, Quetta, is facing an alarming situation as the water level is decreasing by three-and-a-half feet every year”, the governor added.
The governor said that construction of small dams appear to be the only solution to the growing threat of water shortage.
Governor Balochistan said that decreasing water levels has caused damage to agriculture sector in all districts of the province.
Mir Shaukat Baloch on this occasion apprised Governor Balochistan about the various issues of district Kharan.
