Punjab government offers Dehydrator facility free of cost

MULTAN (APP): Punjab government is offering the facility of rose petal dehydration free of cost with the aim to enable growers earn handsome amount from business of flowers.
Punjab government installed a Dehydrator in Floriculture office, situated at old Shujabad road to facilitate farmers in getting rose petals dried. The dried rose petal fetch huge amount from open market, said Assistant Horticulturist and Incharge of Floriculture Office Fiaz Shah while talking to APP here on Tuesday.
He observed that the economic value of petals becomes double after dehydration. The dried petal are exported to different countries.
To a query about common use of rose petals, Fiaz Shah informed that petals were used in cosmetics, tea and essences.
About status of flowers cultivation in the region, the officials informed that the department had conducted digital mapping survey in Tibba Sultanpur, an area in district Vehari,wherein over 390 acres of Rose flowers were cultivated and farmers were taking interest in flower crops. Nearly 100 acres were cultivated with flower crops in district Multan also.
To another question about per acre income generation, the official said that a farmer could earn Rs two lakh from an acre. He claimed that flower crop were paying good dividends and urged farmers to focus on flowers cultivation also.
