UNITED NATIONS – Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Saturdayagain fell short in her attempt to cover her country’s gross human rightsviolations against the innocent Kashmiris in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK),continuous Line of Control violations and India’s role in fomenting theterrorist activities inside Pakistan, leading to significant arrest ofIndian serving navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav.

In her address at the 73rd session of UN General Assembly, Shushma vainlyblamed Pakistan for all ills and even could not justify India’s abruptbacktracking from peace talks with Pakistan.Foreign ministers of India and Pakistan were scheduled to meet on thesidelines of UNGA, but New Delhi had announced the cancellation of themeeting without any solid reason.

During her speech, Shushma stressed upon collective efforts by the UNmembers countries to tackle the issues like climate change and terrorismwhich she termed as the biggest challenges of the 21st century.

She said the under-developed and developing nations were the worst victimof climate change.“They have neither the capacity nor the resources to meet this crisis. Those, who have exploited nature for their immediate needs, cannot abdicatetheir responsibilities,” she added.

The Indian minister urged upon the developed nations that they must liftthe deprived with financial and technical resources. The principle ofcommon and differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities wasreiterated in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

She also emphasized upon the need for fundamental reforms at the UnitedNations, which should not be cosmetic. “If the UN is ineffective, the wholeconcept of multilateralism will collapse,” she warned.
