The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made a firm decision regarding the deadline for tax return submissions. While they have firmly decided not to extend the current deadline, they have introduced a provision for potential extensions if individuals make prior applications to the relevant Commissioner.
Specifically, the FBR has set September 30th as the final date for filing income tax returns, with no plans for an automatic extension. However, individuals may now apply for an extension of up to 15 days by submitting a request to the Commissioner responsible for their case.
In light of this decision, FBR officials have shared encouraging statistics. Thus far, over 1.7 million taxpayers have already filed their tax returns, and it is anticipated that this number will surge past the 2 million mark before September 30th.
This decision by the FBR reflects the importance of adhering to tax deadlines while also acknowledging the need for flexibility in exceptional cases. It underscores the government's commitment to effective tax collection and fiscal responsibility.
