Pakistan welcomes peace accord between Afghan Government and Hizb-e-Islami: FO

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Pakistan Thursday welcomed the peace agreement signed between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan.

Pakistan has consistently emphasized that there was no military solution of the conflict in Afghanistan.

Politically negotiated settlement through an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process was the most viable option for bringing lasting peace and stability to Afghanistan.

The successful conclusion of the peace deal between the Afghan Government and Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan was, therefore, encouraging, Foreign Office said in a statement.

"It is our earnest hope that this peace agreement provides an opportunity for similar agreements between Afghan government and other Afghan insurgent groups for achieving durable peace in Afghanistan," the statement said.
"The Government and people of Pakistan reiterate their continued support and solidarity with the Government and people of Afghanistan in their pursuit of peace, progress and prosperity," it added.
