Reimposed, tightened US sanctions not alternative to war: Iranian FM

Iran has dismissed US President Donald Trump's claim that a war between their countries would be short-lived, as Washington sought NATO's help to build an anti-Tehran coalition.

In a tweets, Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the reimposed and tightened US sanctions are not an alternative to war.

Meanwhile, Iran has termed recent U.S. sanctions against Tehran as illegal.

Iranian news agency quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying the U.S. new sanctions, like previous embargoes, are ineffective and lack any legal basis.

He said these sanctions are desperate measures taken by the U.S. President Donald Trump administration.
