US expresses readiness for conditional withdrawal from Afghanistan

The United States has expressed its readiness for withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan but said pull out from the country is not possible without a ceasefire.

Speaking in Kabul, a senior US official, who was part of the negotiations with the Taliban in Qatar, said that Washington is committed to the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan after 17 years of war.

He said there is a significant progress in talks with Afghan Taliban in Qatar last week. However, he said more negotiations are needed on a ceasefire and its timing.

The official said the US goal is to help bring peace in Afghanistan and it would like a future partnership with a post peace government.
