LONDON: Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy won the second Oscar award for her documentary film “A Girl in the River: The Price for Forgiveness” in the 88th Academy Award Ceremony.

The film is based on an 18 year old girl who survived an honour killing.

Her film was among five films nominated for year’s Academy Award in the Best Documentary-Short Subject category.

She said “This week the Pakistani Prime Minister said he would change the law on honour killing after watching this film-that is the power of the film.”

“I think that that’s a win in itself because it’s such a difficult topic and people shy away from it, normally.”

She was also awarded for her documentary film “Saving Face” in 2012.

She has become the first Pakistani to won two Oscar awards.

The movie will be aired on HBO Canada on 7th March
