PP-78 Jhang By Elections: LHC Verdict on Moulana Ludhanvi plea

LAHORE: (APP) A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday provisionally allowed Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi to contest by-elections from PP-78, Jhang which were scheduled to be held on December 1, 2016.

The bench comprising Justice Shahid Jamil Khan, Justice Shahid Karim and Justice Faisal Zaman Khan passed the interim orders on an appeal by the petitioner-candidate for the purpose.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that the returning officer rejected nomination papers of the petitioner for contesting by-elections from PP-78. He submitted that petitioner had inadvertently forget to provide information regarding pending cases against him in the nomination papers and moved an application for rectifying the same with the returning officer but despite the fact, the returning officer dismissed the application for amendment in the nomination papers.

He contended that the petitioner had provided all details regarding him, so he should be allowed to contest the by- election.

At this, the bench provisionally allowed the petitioner to contest the by-election observing that the by-poll was scheduled to be held on December 1 and it was not possible to get the response of the respondents in such a short time. The court adjourned the further hearing till December 14 and sought reply from Election Commission and other respondents.
