PPP decides to ditch it's symbol

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) on Monday decided to contest the upcoming general elections with “Sword” as its electoral symbol instead of its famous electoral symbol “Arrow”.

Sources told Dunya News that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will take up the petition tomorrow (Tuesday).

PPP senior leader Nayyar Hussain Bukhari filed an application in the ECP after the approval of party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

It is pertinent here to mention that the PPP had contested general elections with sword as election symbol in 1970 and 1977.

Sword was the election symbol of Pakistan People s Party (PPP) headed at that time by late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Sword was deleted from the list of prescribed election symbol by Gen Ziaul Haq after 1977 general election.

Later in March 2010, the ECP had restored the symbol deleted from the list of approved poll symbols by military dictator Gen Ziaul Haq in the late 70s.
