Domestic Violence Bill in KPK assembly soon

PESHAWAR: (APP) Deputy Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Dr. Meher Taj Roghani on Wednesday said all resources will be utilized for the passage of Domestic Violence Bill from the provincial assembly and positive proposals will be included to make it more effective.
Addressing a function held in connections with White Ribbon Campaign under the auspices of the Provincial Commission on Status of Women (PCSW), she said each the domestic violence bill is being prepared in consultations with Ulema and in case of confusion, it could be further amended.
On this occasion, Chairperson Women Caucus, MPA Meraj Hamayun, chairperson PCSW, Neelum Toru, religious scholar, Maulana Mohammad Maqsood Salfi, Advocate Wali Khan Afridi, Robina advocate and chief executive, White Ribbon, Omar Aftab were also present.
Deputy Speaker Dr. Meher Taj Roghani clarified that the domestic violence bill should not be attributed to only women rather it will also be proved helpful in guaranteeing protection to innocent children, girls and deprived classes of society so a healthy society could be established.
Terming White Ribbon Campaign a welcoming effort, she said that the impression of declaring the bill un-Islamic and Western agenda is not correct.
She said Islam has clearly given the teaching of peace and brotherhood.
She said in fact in present circumstances due to domestic violence, several women had taken refuge in different places.
Women themselves have big role in domestic violence, she added.
On this occasion, chairperson, PCSW Neelum Toru clarified in unequivocal terms for making full contacts to ensure the passage of the bill from the assembly.
She said the draft of the bill has been presented in consultations with Ulema and in case of problems it could be resolved through negotiations.
She said there should be no silence on the bill.
Addressing the function, Maulana Maqsood Salfi and Wali Khan Afridi advocate said that religious Islam has several precedents, which condemns domestic in a forceful manner.
Therefore, they said the correct implementation of the legislation will be resolved automatically.
They condemned the rejection of the bill by different institutions and termed their act uncalled for.
