Social media activist Sanam Javaid Khan, affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has received election symbols for her candidacy in two national constituencies, NA-119 and NA-120, as well as one provincial constituency, PP-150. This allocation follows a decision by the Supreme Court.
The assigned election symbols are a photo frame for NA-119 and NA-120, and a pillow for PP-150, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle, particularly against Maryam Nawaz in NA-119.
The decision came after a three-member bench, led by Justice Muneeb Akhtar, heard appeals against the rejection of Sanam Javaid's candidacy papers, and returning officers granted her the election symbols.
Expressing her intent and challenging her chief opponent Maryam Nawaz, Javaid conveyed, "Tell Maryam Nawaz that I have entered the field. My family will spearhead my election campaign, and the people will fight Nawaz for me." She accused Maryam Nawaz of resorting to video politics and avoiding challenges.
In a separate legal development, Sanam Javaid faced a post-arrest bail hearing in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) related to the burning of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) office. The court adjourned the next hearing until January 29 after completing the post-arrest bail proceedings. The court has reserved its decision on the bail application.
