Private TV Channel in hot waters after complaint by NAB

ISLAMABAD: (APP) National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday lodged a complaint against Royal TV Channel to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for airing false and defamatory news against DG NAB Lahore and also NAB as an institution without obtaining official point of view.
The Bureau has also served a legal notice to Royal TV for airing such a baseless and false news against Director General NAB, Lahore and NAB as an institution on Thursday (May 26) from morning to midnight constantly, casting aspersions on person of DG, NAB Lahore and the NAB as an institution.
Royal TV Channel by airing such false and defamatory news has not only violated PEMRA's Electronic Media Code of Conduct, 2015 but also deliberately made an attempt to tarnish respect and image of DG NAB Lahore and the NAB as an institution.
In view of above position, PEMRA is requested to proceed against Royal TV which is in material breach of, inter alia, sections 3(1), section 4(9) and section 22 (1), (3) and (4) of Electronic Media Code of Conduct - 2015.
NAB brought the matter in notice of Chairman PEMRA for a necessary action against Royal TV Channel who has not only violated PEMRA's Code of Conduct but also deliberately started malicious and scandalous campaign against DG NAB, Lahore and NAB as an institution.
It is important to note here that owners of Royal TV Abdul Ghafoor Wattoo and Zahoor Wattoo have already been arrested by NAB in a case of cheating public at large of more than Rs. 2 billion on complaints of affectees. The accused are now Judicial remand.
