MULTAN: (APP) Assistant Director Agriculture Information Naveed Asmat Kahlon Monday gave a briefing to mango farmers and exporters on hot water treatment technology and how it adds value to the fruit before it lands in the international markets.
Kahlon said that in this process, the fresh harvested crop is subjected to hot water at a specific temperature for a specific time period and for a specific purpose i.e. disease control, fruit fly control or other insects disinfestation. The process is a prerequisite for export of the commodity.
The extended hot water treatment is a post-harvest quarantine treatment generally used for fruit fly disinfestation in which the commodity is subjected to hot water for longer period of time i.e. 48 celsius for 60 minutes which is a prerequisite for export of mangoes to Australia, China, Jordan, South Korea, Lebanon, Mauritius and other countries.
