In Islamabad, a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) took place onFriday, during which a notice was issued to Justice Mazahir Naqvi, a judgein the superior court, as reported by ARY News. The Chief Justice ofPakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, presided over the meeting with the purpose ofdiscussing pending complaints against judges in the higher judiciary.
Sources reveal that a complaint had been filed by Justice Sardar Tariqagainst Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi. Notably, the meeting was attended byJustice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Lahore High Court ChiefJustice Ameer Bhatti, and Balochistan High Court Chief Justice JusticeNaeem Akhtar Awan.
Additionally, Supreme Court Registrar Jazeela Aslam and Attorney Generalfor Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan were present.
The complaint filed against Supreme Court Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqviin the Supreme Judicial Council included allegations of misconduct, thepossession of illegal assets, and the accumulation of wealth throughintermediaries. The complainant, Mian Dawood Advocate, has appealed to thejudicial council to remove Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi from theesteemed office of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
In a prior development, in April, both Justice Isa and Justice Masood hadwritten a judicial letter to Justice Bandial, who was then the ChiefJustice of Pakistan (CJP), urging the convening of an SJC meeting to reviewthese allegations.
Subsequently, in May, Justice Bandial referred the matter to Justice TariqMasood for legal opinion.
