Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti addressed the controversy surrounding his statement on Tuesday concerning the potential arrest of Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Bugti clarified that the caretaker government had no political motives behind his statement and that it had been taken out of context.
Bugti expressed his welcome to Nawaz Sharif's desire to rejoin Pakistan's political landscape and acknowledged the preparations of a significant portion of the Pakistani population to welcome him.
He emphasized that upon Nawaz Sharif's return, he would be treated in accordance with the law, emphasizing the need to dispel rumors and assumptions in favor of a realistic assessment of the situation. The caretaker government, he assured, would operate within its designated mandate.
Former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb responded to Bugti's statement, advising him to consider his political stature in his remarks. She asserted that Nawaz Sharif's post-airport destination was neither Bugti's concern nor his decision to make. Instead, she urged him to focus on utilizing his authority and readiness to ensure the security and peace of the people, leaving the decision of Nawaz Sharif's post-airport plans to Nawaz Sharif and the people.
Marriyum Aurangzeb also highlighted Nawaz Sharif's status as a three-time elected prime minister and argued that he had been unfairly persecuted with false allegations and baseless charges. She lamented that this persecution had damaged every sector of the country and left the populace hungry and unemployed, attributing the woes of the nation to this vendetta against Nawaz Sharif.
