BEIJING: China has vowed to take action if an attempt is made to separate the self-ruled island of Taiwan, which Beijing claims as its own.

Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghe in a statement in Beijing today, said the Taiwan issue is related to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, if someone tries to separate it, China’s military will take the necessary actions at any cost.
China has been infuriated by recent US sanctions on its military. The US also sent two warships through the Taiwan Strait on Monday, in the second such operation this year and the latest in a series of US gestures in support of a separate Taiwan.
