Faizabad sit-in: Oil supply from Karachi to rest of the country disrupted due protest

KARACHI: Inland distribution of oil was disrupted as protesters blocked roads in the city’s Sohrab Goth area on Sunday, obstructing mobility of oil tankers.

Enraged protesters began gathering at Sohrab Goth earlier today and put up blockades in the area, resulting in long queues of oil tankers as traffic choked up.

According to a spokesperson of Oil Tanker Contractors Association, several millions of litres of petrol is present in the tankers, which are unable to transport oil inland.

Protesters are staging sit-ins at different areas of the city, including Numaish Chowrangi, Tower, Al-Asif Square, Orangi, Landhi and Hub River Road. They have also gathered at Nagan Chowrangi and Mausamiat, and have blocked roads leading to traffic difficulties for the residents.

Containers have been placed on the road leading to Governor House as well as the road from Teen Hatti to Jehangir Road.

Shahra-e-Faisal remains open for traffic today after it was closed till late Saturday due to protests.
