Pakistan now stands surplus in gas, power supply: PM

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met Claudio Descalzi, CEO, ENI at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Thursday. Special Assistant to PM Ali Jehangir Siddiqui and senior government officials were also present during the meeting.
The Prime Minister appreciated ENI’s continued presence in Pakistan and its efforts for the socio-economic uplift of local communities. He welcomed ENI’s pro-active role in bridging the energy demand-supply of Pakistan. The PM also acknowledged ENI’s engagements in numerous sustainability projects providing access to water, socio economic development, education, health and environmental protection.
The Prime Minister stated that the present government has been successful in meeting energy demands of commercial, industrial and domestic consumers and Pakistan now stands surplus in gas and power supply.
CEO ENI thanked the Prime Minister and expressed ENI’s full support in offering solutions for providing sustained energy supply to Pakistani consumers.
ENI is a multinational Oil & Gas company with operations in 73 countries and ranks among the top 100 on Fortune Global 500 list for largest companies by revenue. ENI is present in Pakistan since 2000 and has three main permits to explore natural gas in Pakistan.
Talking to CEO Trafigura Jermy Weir and CEO Puma Energy Pierre Eladari at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the government has established liberal and attractive policies for international investors and ease of doing business framework is in place.
The Prime Minister appreciated their current investment in Pakistan and invited to further expand investments in the country in diverse sectors.
Both the CEOs acknowledged the government's pro-investment policies and indicated towards actively looking at new investment opportunities in the liberal policy environment and a supportive regulatory regime.
Meanwhile, Renault-Nissan Company has announced that the company will bring its latest products and technological know-how to Pakistan.
Talking to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, Chairman and CEO, Renault-Nissan Carlos Ghosn said that with a car sales market of 0.3 million units per year, Pakistan has a huge potential in automobiles and auto-parts.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is expected to become a 500,000 annual car market by 2023. He said Renault, Kia, Hyundai and a number of other automakers are entering the market to supplement Toyota, Honda and Suzuki.
