Putin discusses Syrian crisis with Macron, Merkel

MOSCOW:Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the Syrian crisis with his French and German counterparts Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel on Sunday.
According to Kremlin, the leaders, who spoke by phone, highlighted the importance of common efforts to implement the ceasefire brokered by the United Nations.
Meanwhile, Russia is counting on foreign patrons of anti-government forces in Syria to ensure the observance of a UN called ceasefire.
Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement today said the combat activities need to be stopped in the interests of the quickest and safe transit of humanitarian convoys.Meanwhile, clashes were reported today between insurgents and government forces in rebel-held areas near Damascus but by and large the ceasefire is in place.
On the other hand, Iran says attacks will continue on Damascus suburbs held by terrorists, but ceasefire will be observed elsewhere in the country.
Iranian news agency Tasnim quoting Iran's military chief of staff General Mohammad Baqeri said today that parts of Syrian capital are not covered by the ceasefire and clean up operations will continue there.A day earlier, the UN Security Council had demanded a 30-day truce across Syria which was agreed by all stakeholders.(Reuters)
