Dasu Dam case : Supreme Court gives direction to Chinese Company

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Supreme Court Thursday admitted the application of China Power Construction Company regarding construction of Dasu Dam and directed the company to contact World Bank in a week.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Faisal Arab heard the case filed by China Power Construction Company seeking stay order over the bidding process pertaining to the construction of Dasu Dam hydro-power project.

During the course of proceedings, the Chief Justice pointed out thatthe high court had directed the company to contact World Bank for protection of its rights and asked as to why did the company not approach the World Bank.

On which, Salman Aslam Butt, counsel for the company, told the court that his client could not approach World Bank till now. He pleaded the court to grant time for contacting the World Bank.

Shahzada Mazhar, counsel for WAPDA, told the court that the company did not approach the World Bank while on the other hand after the completion of tendering, the process of to start construction would be finalized till November 5 this year.

Salman Butt pleaded the bench to link the construction agreement with the court orders.

The court acceded to his plea and directed the company to contact the World Bank in a week.
