KABUL – Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Omar Zakhilwal may run forAfghanistan’s presidential election to be held next year, Afghan media hasreported.
He has urged President Ashraf Ghani to replace him, an authoritative sourcerevealed on Monday.
Zakhilwal had informed the president he would continue to hold theambassadorial assignment until his successor was appointment, the sourceconfided to Pajhwok Afghan News.
Zakhilwal, who has completed his two-year diplomatic assignment inIslamabad, wants to leave his job, according to a senior governmentofficial, who did not want to be named.
Also the president’s special representative to the neighbouring country,Zakhilwal has not yet asked for another job. He may run for next year’spresidential election and wants to launch a campaign in the near future.
