ECP discloses schedule for Sindh LG by-elections

In Karachi, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disclosed the timetable for the Sindh Local Government (LG) by-polls concerning UC chairpersons and vice-chairpersons.

According to the ECP, these by-polls are scheduled for November 5, aiming to elect nine Union Council (UC) chairpersons and 16 vice-chairpersons across Sindh. The by-elections will encompass 74 general seats throughout the province, with the nomination submission deadline set for October 7.

Furthermore, the commission has also unveiled the schedule for LG polls related to 812 reserved seats across 29 districts. Nominations for these polls must also be submitted by October 7, with polling scheduled for October 20.

Earlier this month, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued directives to the chief secretaries of the four provinces and the chief commissioner of Islamabad, instructing them to commence preparations for the general elections in the last week of January 2024.

These preparations include administrative support, logistical assistance, and secure storage for election materials. Additionally, the ECP announced that the initial list for the delimitation of constituencies would be published on September 27, with the final delimitation list set for November 30, leading to the general elections in the last week of January 2024, following a 54-day election schedule.
