Netflix video streaming launches new feature

The popular video streaming platform Netflix is rolling out a new update that promises better audio quality on Android devices. The update will offer better sound in noisy environments, and better performance on slower Mobile link data connections.

It will also bring along a fix for the sudden volume changes on the Android app. This will improve the loudness management preventing jarring volume changes in case of an action scene.

According to a recent announcement, the company has implemented the Extended HE-AAC with MPEG-D DRC (xHE-AAC) audio codec on the platform for devices running on Android 9 Pie and later. The technical aspects of this new implementation are quite complicated. However, all-in-all, Netflix is now promising studio-quality audio for all the compatible devices.

Apart from this, the new system features a variable bit rate which means the sound quality will vary with the quality of your internet connection. The platform will improve the audio quality if the connection allows, otherwise it will scale back in case of flaky connections.

Although not many people like watching Netflix on their smartphones, it will make streaming media on your phone easier especially when you are watching without headphones. Moreover, Android tablet users that don’t get to enjoy good quality sound usually will benefit greatly from this update.
