CNS Admiral Zafar Abbasi stresses economic activities in maritime sector

KARACHI: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi visited the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
The visit was aimed at creating synergy between the local business community and the maritime sector so as to give a boost to country’s economy.
Addressing the representatives of business community, the Naval Chief emphasized the need to kick start economic activities in maritime sector which is one of the pillars of his vision. He added that through mutual cooperation and joint efforts, the maritime economy of the country can be boosted and its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth can be tripled. “We should jointly serve the national cause of developing country’s maritime sector and make collective efforts for progress and prosperity of the country,” he added.
President KCCI Mufassir Atta Malik lauded the role and efforts of Pakistan Navy in making Sea Lanes of Communication safe for trade. He also acknowledged that this is the first ever visit by any Naval Chief to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Operational Plans) also briefed the KCCI members regarding the role and functions of Pakistan Navy and its potential and opportunities to develop national economy through maritime sector.
Earlier, the Naval Chief visited newly inducted Maritime Patrol Vessel PMSS DASHT. The Naval Chief was briefed about the functions and capabilities of the ship. The Admiral also visited Headquarters Pakistan Maritime Security Agency. On arrival at Headquarters PMSA, the Naval Chief was presented guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent.
During the visit, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi was briefed on the role, functions and future plans of Pakistan Maritime Security Agency. Director General Pakistan Maritime Security Agency Rear Admiral Zaka ur Rehman was also present on the occasion.
