An American academic and expert on South Asia has called for addressing the root cause of violence in Kashmir.
In an article published in The Washington Post, Assistant Professor in South Asian history at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, Dr. Hafsa Kanjwal, said the time has come for an honest conversation about the root causes of the problem of Kashmir, its Indian occupation and denial of giving the right of self-determination to Kashmiris.
She said the Pulwama attack was not against Indian civilians rather against armed combatants.
Prof Kanjwal said the suicide bomber, Adil Ahmed Dar, who hit the convoy of Indian paramilitary soldiers, was part of a generation that grew up during the Kashmiri mass movement for freedom that emerged in 2008 and was repeatedly quashed by India.
