DAMASCUS (APP): Car bomb kills five near shrine of Sayyida Zeinab (AS): State Media

A car bomb killed at least five people near the revered shrine of Sayyida Zeinab (AS), south of the Syrian capital Damascus, on Monday, state news agency SANA reported.

The bomb struck Al-Diyabiyah, a town that serves as one of the gateways for the many pilgrims from around the world who visit the holy site.

Another 20 people were also wounded, SANA reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll at eight. It had no immediate word on whether there were civilians among the dead.

The shrine contains the grave of Zeinab (AS), a venerated granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and is known for its glistening golden onion-shaped dome.
