A reset expected in the fractured Pakistan US ties

WASHINGTON - Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi says Pakistan desires relations with United States on the basis of mutual respect and interests.

Addressing a press conference in Washington, the Foreign Minister said he would meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on second of next month to reset ties between the two countries.

He said this meeting will take place as per invitation of Mike Pompeo which he extended during his visit to Pakistan early this month.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan has always supported the United States and would like to move forward in the backdrop of their past friendship.

The Foreign Minister said the relationship between the two countries has recently been fractured but Pakistan intends to continue its engagement with the US and manage the relationship by concentrating on points of convergence.

To a question, Foreign Minister said it is extremely unfortunate that India has rejected Pakistan's offer for dialogue to resolve the lingering issues between the two countries.

However, he said our desire for peace should not be misconstrued for weakness and we are ready to give a befitting response to any misadventure.

The Foreign Minister said India is bound to act upon UN resolutions on Kashmir issue.
