General Faiz Hameed is still ISI Chief, claims Interior Minister

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has said that Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed link was still the director-general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Sheikh Rasheed said this while addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Sunday.

Earlier, Sheikh Rasheed had said that notification regarding the appointment of DG ISI would be issued by Friday; however, the notification could not be issued.

During Sunday’s presser, a journalist asked the interior minister who was ISI chief link, Sheikh Rasheed quickly responded “Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed link is still the ISI chief link.” [image: Loading video]

Earlier, the Army had announced on October 6 that the incumbent ISI chief link Gen Faiz Hameed link, had been made the Peshawar corps commander, while Lt Gen Nadeem Ahmed Anjum was appointed in his place.

But the Prime Minister’s Office had since not issued an official notification of Lt Gen Anjum's appointment.

After days of speculations, on Oct 12, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that the authority to appoint the ISI chief link lay with the prime minister, and that the set procedure would be followed for the purpose. "The legal procedure will be followed in the appointment of the new DG ISI, for which both [Gen Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran] are in agreement," he had said.

Fawad Chaudhry had said that PM Imran and the Army Chief had a "long sitting" to discuss the matter and the premier had subsequently taken the cabinet into confidence over the issue.
