COAS General Bajwa’s message on UN 76th anniversary

Pakistan Army has a “distinguished history of serving humanity for peace”, said Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on the United Nations (UN) 76th anniversary.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement, extended “best wishes” to the UN on behalf of Pakistan’s armed forces.
“Pakistan Army has distinguished history of serving humanity for peace. Sacrifices by our men bear testimony to our unwavering resolve for global peace in line with our founding father’s vision,” Gen Bajwa was quoted by the military’s media wing.
After the devastation caused by World War II, representatives of 50 countries gathered at the United Nations Conference on International Organisation in San Francisco, California from April 25 to June 26 1945.
During the next two months, all the country’s sat together to draft and then sign the UN Charter that created the United Nations with hopes to prevent another world war.
The UN officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the charter was ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and most other signatories.
The United Nations Day is observed every year on October 24 (today) as it marks the anniversary of the day when the supranational organisation’s charter came into force.
