Pakistan committed to backing UN peacekeeping initiatives: Maleeha

At the United Nations, Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to backing initiatives aimed at improving peacekeeping in various parts of the world.
Speaking in the UN Security Council in a debate on "Peace and Security in Africa", Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the world body, Maleeha Lodhi said credibility of the UN depends on successful peacekeeping and so does international peace and security.
She said Pakistan was the first country to accede the Declaration of Shared Commitments, which reaffirmed the need to provide sustainable and flexible funding for African-led peace operations.
She said Pakistani well-trained troops have protected civilians, provided medical care and rebuilt communities.
