Gilani granted one-day exemption in corruption reference

ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court granted one-day exemption from hearing to former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani in a reference pertaining to misuse of authority for awarding a media campaign contract against the law to favor a firm.

The Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik conducted hearing on a corruption reference against former prime minister filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
During the proceeding, Gillani's counsel requested the court to grant one-day exemption from hearing to his client which was accepted by the judge. The court adjourned hearing of the case till December 11.

The NAB) had filed a reference against Gilani and others in a case of alleged misuse of authority in a publicity campaign of USF, which had caused a loss of Rs 128 million to the national exchequer.

Former principal information officer (PIO) Muhammad Saleem, former information secretary Farooq Awan and former CEO Universal Services Fund (USF) Riaz Asher Siddiqui, former managing director of Midas Inam Akbar and Muhammad Hanif were also nominated in reference by the anti graft body.
