ISLAMABAD: Aafia Siddiqui, the Pakistani woman who was convicted by a US court, is very much alive.
Aisha Farooqui, the Pakistani consul-general in Houston, met on Wednesday Siddiqui for two hours at the Carswell detention facility in Fort Worth, Texas. According to the Pakistani consulate, this was Farooqui’s fourth meeting with Siddiqui in the past 14 months.
Rumours circulated on social media, saying that Siddiqui had died in the US jail. Her sister, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, who lives in Pakistan, said she was unaware of any such news.
An American court tried and convicted Siddiqui in early 2010 for attempted murder of US military officers in Afghanistan in 2008. The court sentenced her to 86 years in prison. APP
